About

Reminiscences is planned to be a for-profit physical zine, with accompanying merch! The project theme is broadly “pre-canon”, encompassing everything from before the initial London trip to present day (anything prior to the first case). The final zine will be structured as a chronology leading up to the events of The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures, and will be divided into four subcategories:
1) Pre-London Trip
2) The London Trip
3) The Professor Case
4) Post-London Trip, up until 1-1
This zine will not centre on any particular character, nor will works revolving a particular event (i.e. The Professor Case) have to feature the characters relevant those events!
For an example: for the initial London trip period, you could explore a young Barok van Zieks attending university, as that would be happening during the same period in time (1881-1887).

FAQ

Will this zine be physical or digital?
Currently, Reminiscences is planned to be a for-profit physical project. Profits will be divided equally among contributors and paid out via PayPal. We furthermore will aim to compensate contributors with a free copy of the full bundle.
Will there be merch?
Yes. However, due to the current U.S. tariff situation, we will only be producing a small bundle. We will also only be able to produce items that can be manufactured in the U.S., such as stickers, prints, and potentially buttons/bookmarks.
If the situation improves and stabilizes over the course of our creation period, we will look into upgrading our sticker designs to acrylic keychains, as well as recruiting potential pinch hitters.
Where will shipping be from/to?
All physical orders will be shipped from the U.S. Shipping will be global, with an exception of the European Union. Shipping to the UK will be allowed.
How many contributors will be accepted?
We're looking to accept 5-6 writers, 5~ merch artists, and 28~ page artists.
*Numbers are subject to change depending on application turnout.
Will this zine be SFW?
This zine will not depict any pornographic content or excessive gore. However, contributors are allowed to include visual and written depictions of canon-typical violence/gore in their pieces.
Will any AUs be featured in the zine?
Keeping with the zine theme, we will not be featuring any alternate universes or canon divergences.
Will any ships be featured in the zine?
Shipping will not be featured in this project. We will allow works depicting canonical pairings (i.e. Klint van Zieks/Lady Baskerville) as romantic, but we otherwise ask contributors to stick to platonic depictions of the cast.
Can I apply as both an artist and a writer?
Yes! However, applicants can only be accepted for one role.
Will collaborations between artists and writers be allowed?
Yes! We will be aiming to ensure every writer’s fic is given accompanying spot art. Collabs will be organized in-server when all contributors arrive.
What characters will be featured in this zine?
We will have a focus on characters that are relevant to Professor Case, however we will aim to include background characters and events unrelated to the case. We do not have a specific list of guaranteed characters we intend to feature.

Contributor Guidelines

General Guidelines
All contributors must be at least 18 years old by the time preorders begin on September 20th.

All contributors must have a Discord account, as well as a PayPal account.

Contributors’ pieces for the zine must be made exclusively for the project. Using former pieces or WIPs is disallowed.

Zines are time commitments! Extensions will be provided per check-in as needed, but applicants are expected to fully and realistically consider their own schedule with respect to the zine’s timeline.

Contributors may not use AI assistance during any stage of their application or creation process. All works must be done purely by the contributor’s own brain and hands.
Similarly, plagiarism will not be tolerated. Applicants/contributors discovered to be plagiarizing will be permanently removed from the project. This includes stealing (tracing, near-identical stealing of compositions, etc.) from other artists/writers work without full permission and proper credit. The mods will handle this on a case-by-case basis.

Application Guidelines
Applicants will share a selection of sample pieces as well as a larger portfolio.

Applications must include at least one Ace Attorney related piece, with TGAA examples highly encouraged.

Please note: the criteria for both writers and artists is flexible! The mods will account for specific styles while going through portfolios. Your application should include pieces that demonstrate your individual best strengths as a potential contributor!

For Page Artists
All prospective artists will be asked to provide 3 samples of their work, alongside a Google Drive portfolio of up to 15 pieces.

Note: Please make sure to include a notice if you are submitting NSFW or suggestive work for a sample!

Samples will be judged on:
Anatomy and coherency: Are the characters in the example works distinct and recognizable? Are there any substantial anatomy flaws that draw the viewer out of the piece?

Backgrounds: Is the space coherent and understandable? Does it contribute to the overall purpose of the piece and the characters?
“Backgrounds” does not inherently mean environmental backgrounds! The mods will be judging based on whether you can fill a full page in an interesting way!

Colour use: Do pieces demonstrate understanding of colour, depth, shadows, etc.? How interesting or appealing is the use of colours?

Stylism: How does the applicant style things like characters, composition, backgrounds, etc.? If any of these “rules” for art are broken, is it broken consciously and with specific artistic intent?

For Merch Artists
Merch artists will be judged on the same notes as page artists, however merch artist applications will also be judged on:

Style according to application: If you are applying for a wallpaper or print, are you providing samples that show full pieces with backgrounds? If you are applying for a sticker or charm, are you providing samples that show interesting designs with individual characters? Etc.

For Writers
All prospective writers will be asked to provide 2-4 samples of their work alongside their portfolio.
Portfolios can be provided within a Google Drive, AO3 account, or Substack page.Samples can be full fics, or excerpts from longer works.

Shorter samples (>3k) are encouraged. Samples above 4k will not be considered in full.
Note: If you're submitting through Google Docs, please make sure to include a notice if you are submitting NSFW or suggestive work for a sample!

Samples will be judged on:
Grammar and structure: Do your samples include correct grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, etc.?

Content and verbosity: Are you overly wordy? Are you able to tell an appealing story within word constraints?

Style: Are you able to play into the feeling of TGAA with your writing?

Characterization: Characterization is subjective, and as such, mods will be flexible when it comes to judging it. However, how realistic the characterization in your pieces feel will still be considered.
